5th – 11th October 2020: an important week for Pippi of Today campaign

Due to the Covid-19 emergency, Pippi of Today, The Astrid Lindgren Company’s campaign in partnership with Save the Children to support girls fleeing war and poverty, has been extended until December 31, 2021 and this autumn sees the launch of a new important phase.

From 5 to 11 October, the campaign will be the subject of great attention with numerous communication initiatives on social platforms implemented by Save the Children and The Astrid Lindgren Company to share information and data on the condition of migrant girls, highlighting their right to be heard.

OCTOBER 6th: LAUNCH OF SAVE THE CHILDREN ‘s GLOBAL REPORT “GIRLS ON THE MOVE”

On 6th October Save the Children launches the global “Girls on the Move” report, which includes the Pippi of Today campaign. This is a series of research conducted by Save the Children on three continents to increase awareness of the situation of girls on the move.

The event will be broadcast in live streaming at the Stockholm Museum of Photography at 18: 00-19: 00 UTC +2.

OCTOBER 11th: A DAY TO RAISE EVERYONE’s AWARENESS

The intense awareness-raising activity will lead to World Girls’ Day on 11 October, established by the United Nations in 2011 to make public opinion and institutions responsible for the rights of girls and the need to promote their emancipation. The Astrid Lindgren will actively participate in the celebrations of this day by highlighting the theme of migrant girls and supporting the Pippi of Today campaign on digital platforms. Luisa, Sarena, Naw Si, Mary, Karma, Gazal, Anna, Adriana, Leen, Claudia and Aye Aye are 11 girls among the millions of migrant girls. ALICIA VIKANDER SUPPORTING GIRLS ON THE MOVE

The autumn phase of the Pippi of Today Campaign also sees the important contribution of Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander who, with a recorded video message, helps raise awareness for the Pippi of Today campaign. The actress also served as narrator for part of the special audiobook available on Spotify created to support the campaign: Pippi Moves Into Villa Villekulla, the first book by Pippi Longstocking to be published. All proceeds from the sale of the audiobook are donated directly to the campaign. Alicia Vikander finally gave her voice to the official Pippi of Today campaign footage.
